Excuse me while I shill one of my favorite books ever, The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. It is a historical romance in the vein of Gone with the Wind, Dr. Zhivago, Outlander, or The Thorn Birds (other favorites of mine). The story and romance between Tatiana and Alexander begin the day of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, through the Siege of Leningrad and further. I first read this book in 2002, cried like a baby at the end, promptly bought my mom a copy and then ordered the 2 sequels from Australia (Simons was and is a more popular author Down Under than she is here or in the UK). Since then, I’ve read The Bronze Horseman at least once every two years, just as in love with the it as I was that first time.
Happily, this 894-page book of awesomeness was just rereleased in stores and on the Kindle. AND! The “With Bonus Materials” Kindle edition is only $1.99! Did I purchase this Kindle edition? Yes. Am I dreading finishing it, again? … Yes.
If y’all like hefty epic romances, if you’re sad there is only one more Outlander novel on the way, if you hate that there are Gone with the Wind “sequels”, if you are pissed that Jean M. Auel’s The Land of Painted Caves was boring, then please, please read The Bronze Horseman!
Anyone got any books they want to throw at me?
